My son loves this

My son and I do one almost every night before bed and he loves it. The pictures are in black and white but that just means that he can color in what he finds.

The only down side I see is that the book doesn't have many puzzles in it.

About the Author
Joel Karty earned his B.S. in chemistry at the University of Puget Sound and his Ph.D. in physical organic chemistry at Stanford University. He joined the faculty at Elon University in 2001, where he currently holds the rank of associate professor. He teaches primarily the organic chemistry sequence and also teaches general chemistry and physical chemistry. In the summers, Joel teaches at the Summer Medical and Dental Education Program through the Duke University medical center. His research interests include investigating the roles of resonance and inductive effects in fundamental chemical systems and studying the mechanism of pattern formation in Liesegang reactions. He has written a very successful student supplement, Get Ready for Organic Chemistry, Second Edition (formerly called The Nuts and Bolts of Organic Chemistry), published by Pearson.

In the forward to John Miller’s collection of writings titled, The Ruin of Exchange/ And Other Writings on Art, Mike Kelley wrote, “John is a utopian, his basic worldview is Marxist, and he has a black sense of humor-generally delivered with a straight face. His sense of humor is more easily perceived in his visual artworks than in his writings, which are quite serious.” I would say, this is mostly correct, Mike, but, his artworks, which can be hysterical, are also delivered with a straight face. Overturned plastic trash cans, smeared plaster and brown acrylic as bad conscience, the collective we say, “NO”!

To the point of the serious writing; yes it is. John’s writing is analysis heavy in the territory of human-emotional economies as they spill around the site of the art work and reconstitute as both received hubris by an audience picking at fragments of clarity. And, as indicators of reinforcement that fuel the machine of history making. John’s analysis is always from a place we don’t expect even if calculated to come through the channel of intellectualized positioning. The fundamental departure point or the frame of his reference remains consistent throughout the entire collection of these essays, which could be very dry, but not here. They’re terrific fun and challenging. Like an episodic tv show that doesn’t stray too far from the essential plot line. So here we have new yet familiar dramas, I will call Departure-Marxism. How great - familiar yet new again.

This collection, these texts and ideas come from a good amount of John’s career. They are important to read now precisely because currently all we’re getting, all across the published scene from the broad array of populists’ who spit out so-called critical writing, is career gossip and money envy in the guise of sophistication. For me, having witnessed some of the events and some of the work John discusses, and I would assume for most of John’s readers, we say NO!

He has successfully managed many large projects/ programs relating to ERP implementations, business-systems integration, and IT strategy development. Prior to consulting for PwC, Ramani managed technology and application services for numerous clients, including non-profit organizations. He has also handled portfolio, program, and project management workshops for large transnational clients in multiple countries.

Ramani currently manages his own company, GRT Consulting LLP, which specializes in project, program, and portfolio management related consulting and training. Ramani is among the very few global professionals who are accredited in project, program, and portfolio management certifications, from both PMI and from AXELOS frameworks.

To me, "Improving Business Performance" by Ramani S. is a 'must read' for all project professionals. Ramani describes the importance of strategy and how it evolves. He realizes organizational leaders require a strategic approach through portfolio management given the changes under way today. He focuses on change initiatives in terms of transition management and how to best engage with stakeholders in change management. To demonstrate the importance of portfolio management, he includes an interesting case study. Ramani enriches the book with inclusion of major artifacts - for portfolio managers, program managers, and project managers.
