This is a great book for a newcomer to the modern frontend build process. If you want to start from square one and be introduced to Grunt and how people are using it to maximize their efficiency, this book will get you up and running and make sure everything is clear.

If you are coming with some experience or have used Gulp or Webpack, there will be a few skippable sections, but the book is still great as a resource. It's well organized and full of examples, so it's easy to flip to a specific plugin you want to use and remind yourself of how it's set up. It won't teach you anything new about the inner workings of Grunt, but it thoroughly goes over all aspects of it as a user.

Covers the basics for office etiquette

This book covers etiquette basics for the workplace in less than 200 pages. I've read a number of etiquette books, so I have to admit I didn't find that many new concepts in the pages. I did enjoy reading it as a quick "brush-up" on things I tend to forget, though (like not trying to finish other people's sentences!!!). The book covers most of the topics you need to know for business etiquette. A few include:

Non-verbal communication
Cursing and Language
Listening Skills
Cell phones
Email
Travel
Office Space
Gender Divide
Lunch and Socializing
Interviewing & Leaving a Job Gracefully
Confronting with Courtesy

A few topics that I found especially interesting included what to do when you friend becomes your boss and how to deliver unwelcome information. Each chapter in the book is fairly short, which means it can be read quickly to grasp main concepts, but there is not a whole lot of detail. For some readers, this may fulfill their needs just fine. The author lists a bibliography at the end for those who want to research specific topics further. This book is geared towards professional office employees (like those at major corporations), although others may find the information useful. For a book more geared towards salespeople and small business owners, Business Class: Etiquette Essentials for Success at Work may be a more appropriate choice.

Overall this book is a great place to start for learning a bit of etiquette or reminding yourself of what you should be doing. For readers seeking a detailed business etiquette book, The Etiquette Advantage in Business:Personal Skills for Professional Success (a whopping 550+ pages) provides more in-depth information.

Great for a teen at that first office job.

This book is really geared toward an indoor, office workplace, although the habits and recommendations are important for anyone working on their interpersonal skills, in any area.

The tips boil down to:
+ Keep your emotions under control
+Be more formal than others
+Be discreet and prudent

Great advice!

Good sections on body language and how to respond to a sudden shift in body language. Very good section on expressing condolences and how to leave a job.

This is an outstanding book!

People I meet in business are often perplexed about the best way to handle many day to day interactions with their boss, their peers, their customers and even their "enemies." Dr. Beverly Langford has written a powerful book about how to act in those frequent situations where the right action is often not obvious. The book is so well organized in thirty topical chapters, I was able to skip around and read the ones that were particularly relevant to me at the time. I gave this book to my children who are just starting their careers, but I also find myself recommending it to executives who've been in the workplace for a long time--it's that helpful. It's extremely well written and is one of the most practical workplace books I've ever read. I really liked this book!

An incoherent mash-up of half-formed ideas

Maybe Ales Kot has something to say. And maybe, in a few years, he'll be able to pull his thoughts together into a lucid whole. Unfortunately, he's not there yet. Significant parts of this story are just gibberish masquerading as profound thought. I think Kot is trying to channel Beckett and Derrida and Sartre, mix in some quantum physics, and sprinkle the whole thing with nerdish-hip references to pop culture, but the result is mostly just babble. Kot deserves credit for striving to say something meaningful, but when he relies on clichéd notions like "the medium is the message" -- a phrase that dates back to 1964 -- and when his characters blather on about false dichotomies and "the timeless fractal nature of causality in space-time," I just have to giggle.

I don't want to ridicule Wild Children because I think Kot is sincere and sincerity deserves respect. Still, Kot gets a little too cute when he acknowledges that his story doesn't make any sense and insists that the reader is free to "decide what it all means." Fair enough. I decided that Kot's mash-up of half-formed thoughts and science fiction buzz words doesn't mean anything. At least, not anything that hasn't been said before, with greater coherence. Public school education sucks? Reality is whatever you perceive it to be? Not terribly enlightening ideas at best, and seriously underdeveloped here.

On a positive note, the art is perfect for the story. It conveys the sense of shifting reality, or multiple realities, or unreality, that the story tries to achieve. I would give the art more stars than the story; my three star verdict is a compromise between the two, although I would give it 2 1/2 if I could.

A final note. If you're going to do a comic about kids with guns and bombs taking over a high school, you might want to acknowledge reality: when kids bring guns to school, the results are tragic. When characters say "this is all just a game," when they ask with glib innocence "Why are you so afraid of us?," they're either denying history or revealing a shameful ignorance. To the teachers and kids who have died because of guns in schools, it isn't just a game.

Doesn;t transcends named dropped influences

Plot;Group of kids called the wild children take hostage four teachers that they drugged with LSD. Everything in between is a lecture on the nature of reality, education, life. It's all half digested influences of things the author read, watched and muscis, without making or saying anything new.
The art in this is serviceable to the story. Its sketchy ,loose and minimal in detail. The characters manner don't reflect what they say, which makes awkward moment in the story. There an interesting few panels where the artist changes styles to reflect the idea of a changing reality.
Over all, interesting ideas, poor story, and weak art makes for a two star book.

OK, but won't really wow veteran readers

I'm honestly not sure what I thought about this after I finished it, but I'll warn potential readers that this isn't exactly light reading. I have to say that while this wasn't what I was expecting exactly, I was just left a little underwhelmed at the end of it all.

I started out really digging the feel of this comic. The artwork is pretty good. It suited the initial feel of the characters while not being overly polished. When the artists start bringing in the more flashy stuff later on, it's actually to a rather nice effect. I believe that this is because initially we're to believe that this is a simple little world where everything is exactly as it seems to be, with the stranger artwork coming in only after revelations about said world begin to start sinking in to the various unnamed characters in the story. Art-wise, this was great. Story-wise, this was just "OK". I'm going to try to keep from being too spoilerific, but I'll warn you that I might accidentally let some story line spill in my attempts to explain why I felt disappointed by this.

We're thrown rather abruptly into the story line, with little to no information about our youthful characters other than they're teenagers that are pretty disillusioned with the educational system. A few of them are dating, but that's pretty much all we're ever really given about them. We don't even get their names. This actually works in the comic's favor for the most part since the point of this comic is that it's not supposed to be a big epic where just as much time is spent on fleshing out back stories as it is telling the bigger story. I wouldn't be lying if I said that it also kept me from fully sinking into the characters as much as I wanted to.

I think what the ultimate problem with this is that it just feels like it's trying too hard to tell its message. We have themes of anarchy, reality, and disillusionment, but I felt like I was being clubbed over the head with the message. The revelations here are interesting, which is why I was so disappointed in how heavy handed and preachy everything felt. The "ah ha!" moment just didn't have the momentum to go through the entire issue. In the end I couldn't help but feel that the characters were essentially being just as obtuse as the people they were trying to uprise against. The book relies too heavily on the idea that the message here is so novel and interesting that we'll just keep going.

Ultimately this wasn't bad and I appreciate that the comic team was taking a risk in trying to make something of this nature. It's just that this sort of thing has been done before and done better. People who are entirely new to these types of comics will likely embrace this comic, and I encourage them to do so. There's a good idea here. For the ones who are familiar with surreal comics that deal with reality like this, you'll just get a feeling of "been there, done that, already replaced the t-shirt a few times". It's worth reading for the nice artwork and for introducing someone to surreal "challenge what you know" comics, but you'll want to have backup stuff to show them that there are better things out there.

Wonderful, TRUE, Christmas story

Beautifully written and illustrated, this true Christmas story is one I've read aloud on many occasions--even for a couple of church worship services. It never fails to delight and inspire. David C. Cook really should reprint it since I've looked all over the internet and have been unable to find a new or used copy to give as a gift. It ranks with The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey as my all-time favorite Christmas stories.

Great gift for Grand kids

I purchased three copies of The Last Straw for our families with young children. I will probably order more for friends. So far I have read it to one set of grand kids...two girls and a boy ages 12, 9 and 6. They were so excited they wanted to draw names, including grandpa and me, right away. I had already made a manger out of scrap wood and bought raffia because they have so many allergies I figured I didn't want to take any chances with real straw. They found a central place to set up the manger and immediately the "straw" began to accumulate as we all found special things to do for each other. When their parents came to pick them up I sent the book, manger and raffia home with them to continue adding to the softness of the bed for Baby Jesus. When our five generation family gets together Christmas Eve I will give a Baby Jesus to the three families that received the book and manger earlier in the month. A delightful book, a wonderful new tradition.

We did this as a family briefly, like in one day. The kids liked it and seemed to catch the meaning of the story. They are quite young and I plan on doing this next year too. It may turn into a tradition, or something every third year or so.

Excellent background for Gilman studies

I taught a short course on "Reading Gilman," and chose this and the Penguin fiction anthology. Ceplair's book gives an excellent overview of Gilman's life and work, with an emphasis on her nonfiction work that is not available from other sources. I'm not a Gilman scholar so I can't speak to the choice of pieces he includes in the book, but the introductions and biographical notes are very well written and make an easy read for both graduate and undergraduate students. He presents Gilman's contradictory and complex thought sensitively and with compassion.

Loved the introduction and the forward by the author, helped to understand Charolotte Perkins Gilmans' writings. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is doing a research essay on Ms. Gilman. I used it for my American Literature presentation.
