An Important Piece of the Puzzle

Astute and highly experienced psychotherapist and teacher, Linda Curran, adds a gem to the rich literature of trauma assessment, diagnosis and treatment with her latest guidebook. I found this well-written and throughly researched text to be incredibly helpful and informative. The organization and explanations are thoroughly developed with a thoughtful but respectful approach. Coming from a systemic, marriage and family background background, I also appreciated that the author included an explanation of Internal Family Systems (Richard Schwartz, et al) and Narrative Psychotherapy (Michael White, David Epston and colleagues) two of the most promising schools of systemic psychotherapy in the treatment of trauma injury. Much can be accomplished and reclaimed if we remember the interconnectedness of individual - family - community. This book is worth every penny and I highly recommend it.

About the Author
Professor Conrad Lashley is Professor of Leisure Retailing at the Centre for Leisure Retailing at the Nottingham Business School. His research interests have largely been concerned with service quality management, and specifically employee empowerment in service delivery. He works closely with several major industry organizations including the British Institute of Innkeeping, J. D. Wetherspoon and McDonald's Restaurants Limited.

She has an MSc in Entrepreneurial Studies and her Ph.D. thesis investigated small firm strategic alliances. Since 1979 she has been an entrepreneur in her own right, owning and operating a number of restaurant and hotel businesses. In addition, she regularly undertakes consultancy projects for entrepreneurs both in the UK and internationally.

Startling

If you want to read a book on how the Fed, the government, and Wall Street are bedfellows in clear, concise, and understandable terms, then read this short book. It's eye opening, written by a person who was there, has integrity and credentials, and can explain things so anybody can understand. That's why the stock market keeps going up and up, but, the United States will have to pay the piper someday. Excellent reading for those who want to know.

A Highly Engrossing and Accessible Account of the Decay of our Economic and Political System

If you want to understand how the biggest theft in world history took place, I highly recommend this book. I've read other accounts of the Financial Collapse of 2008 that left me scratching my head, but Ms. Tavakoli has a fluid and accessible writing style that allows the reader to understand what happened, why it happened and how it is likely to happen again. This book is enraging since it clearly demonstrates how a bunch of pompous sociopaths managed to privatize rewards and socialize risk in the banking sector, while producing nothing of value to the public at large. The executives at Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan Chase and the other Too Big To Fail institutions should be rotting in prison for their crimes, but instead are protected by a political and regulatory system that is bought and paid for by their political contributions. It's a shame that the American Taxpayers are too stupid to force these criminals to be subject to justice for their crimes.

Tragic!

Such a sad tale showing the darkness of humanity. Tragedy hits this family over and over, leaving one mental mess after another. Hold on tight, there are plenty of amazing twists and turns with the crazy classic Shaw ending! Well done, highly recommended to all fans of modern horror.

Dolls: An Extreme Horror
I had to take pause before writing this review and I’m not sure I can give this book the credit it deserves with mere words. Matt Shaw has written a brilliant psychological horror that tears at the mind and stops the heart.
This story will send the world you know it into an unsettling surreal repulsion with disturbing scenes and unthinkable events.
You’re thrown into two children’s life of dreadful tragedies. Zoe and Mark are two children who go through traumatic events in a short period of time, including: suicide, rape, torture, and murder. If you have ever wondered just how much a child's mind can take before it breaks into an unrecognizable alternate reality of mentally twisted sickness, this story will give you some insight. For any parent—any normal person, really—this story is heart wrenchingly horrific—it is truly a parent’s worst nightmare.
Matt takes you on a roller-coaster of events that leads the catastrophic break of a child’s mind. This is not a story for the meek but if you can fathom the horror it is a story you won’t soon forget.

Shaw does it again

This is the story of a brother and sister. If you know anything about Matt Shaw, it's that he likes to play around with story structure and timelines. This story jumps from character to character and from past to present in such a way that more and more of story is revealed at just the right moments.

In the past, Mark and Zoe's father has just died and they are living with their mom and her boyfriend. With their world in shambles, Shaw will show us the events that lead up to the future segments where they are still living together and Zoe is obsessed with her dolls.

Dolls is not a black cover extreme horror, but the nature of some of the scenes make this an intense read. It's cringe worthy, but written well. Things were not thrown in for shock value, but added to the characters and the story. Shaw has published over a hundred stories and this is one of my favorite.
