Recent high school transfer student Hasegawa Kodaka is pathetically inept at making friends. When he comes across the brash loner Mikazuki Yozora, who typically chats with her imaginary friend, the two outsiders become the unlikeliest of allies.
Realizing that they have no hope of a normal social life, the two rejects decide to form a group called "The Neighbor's Club" in order to make friends and maybe even learn a thing or two about social skills. As luck would have it, five new members join the club who are more socially awkward than they are. Will these quirky misfits ever make normal friends, or are they all doomed to social failure?

(3.5 STARS) Round Robin Story, Role Playing Game and Karaoke

All main characters have finally arrived, but for seven members of the Neighbors Club, who are not good at making friends, things do not change very much in Volume 4 of “Haganai.” Those “misfits” – Kodaka, Yozora, Sena, Rika, Maria, Yukimura and Kodaka’s sister Kobato – continue to be what they were, and in this sense Volume 4 of manga “Haganai,” though it is entertaining enough, feels a little repetitious.
As the original creator Yomi Hirasaka says in the postscript, the best part of the book is the first episode, in which the Neighbors Club members write a “round robin story,” contributing his/her part of a long story and taking up where the previous writer left. Each portion naturally reflects the writer’s personality and taste, and Rika, an avid yaoi fan, once again steals the show.
The round robin story part is followed by the roll-playing game episode (two-part chapter) and a karaoke episode. They are not bad. It is just that the rivalry between two girls Yozora and Sena seems overused. Some interesting Club members like Maria and Kobato are almost nowhere to be seen.
The fourth volume wraps up with a chapter where Sena’s father invites the hero Kodaka to his home. This is the weakest part, but tells us something new is around the corner. Summer vacation is about to begin. Wait for “Haganai” Volume 5.

liked the stories

But i can't say as much for the artwork... It looks sketchy and sloppy in places, and sometimes it's hard to distinguish the characters. i'm biased, because i saw the anime first, and it's a pleasure to watch. I will continue to purchase the manga however, as it touchs on stories the anime didn't do.
